'Caementum'

The word cement is derived from the Latin word ‘caementum’ which means rough-cut stone. The term "binding" was later included in the meaning of this word.

Binder

Hydraulic binding materials are the binding materials, which are not dispersed into the water upon forming a hard mass as a consequence of their reaction with the water, and which maintain or increase their hardness and strength.

For which purposes is cement used?

  • In construction of commercial and business centers, sites, residences, hotels, hospitals and school buildings and etc.,
  • In sewerage, underground construction and network systems,
  • In construction of water structures such as dams, ponds, water drainage channels, flumes, etc.,
  • In construction of seaports, harbors, marinas, breakwaters and similar sea structures,
  • In construction of projects for tunnels, bridges, viaducts and highways,
  • In construction of concrete roads,
  • In construction of airports and airfields,
  • In manufacturing of adhesion and joint sealant materials (adhesives for laying of tiles, ceramic tiles, and marble granite, construction joints)

  • In manufacturing of premixed plaster and mortar,
  • In design of works of arts (statues, reliefs, monuments, etc.)

01

The raw material is extracted by blasting and removal. The extracted material is conveyed to crushers by trucks.

02

Dimensions of the raw material are reduced to 50x50 mm.

03

Raw material is brought from the quarry, and is granulated and stocked.

04

Homogeneous materials are granulated and conveyed to the storage bins.

05

The mix is heated in preheater towers and conveyed to the rotary kiln.

06

1- The temperature of the mix in the kiln increases up to 1500-1600 0C, the mix rotating and moving forward is transformed into black round pieces in size of a walnut, which are called as clinker.

07

Once the clinker is formed, it must be cooled down to 1000C.

08

Cooled clinker is conveyed to the clinker silos. To produce each cement type clinker is mixed with needed additional materials and cypsum in cement mill. Cement is conveyed to the cement silos.

09

Cement is stocked in the silos, and sold as bulk or bagged cement.

Cement is stocked in the silos, and sold as bulk or bagged cement.
