OYAK’S CEMENT FACTORIES AND CONCRETE PLANT RECEIVE ZERO WASTE CERTIFICATION

OYAK Çimento Fabrikaları A.Ş. and OYAK Concrete have now officially received zero waste certification. Accordingly, OYAK Cement’s nine plants and OYAK Concrete’s one plant were granted zero waste certificates thanks to the establishment of the Zero Waste Management System. An application made for OYKA Kağıt Ambalaj is currently being assessed by the Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urbanization.

With the activities they conduct towards ensuring a sustainable world in Turkey’s cement and concrete industries, OYAK Çimento Fabrikaları A.Ş. and OYAK Concrete Misis Ready-Mixed Concrete Plant fulfilled the conditions of the Turkish Zero Waste Regulation, each becoming entitled to the “Zero Waste Certificate”. OYAK contributes to Turkey’s sustainable growth target by developing behavioral models that respect the requirements of today and tomorrow in a responsible way, and has initiated the OYAK Zero Waste Project to be followed by its companies in order to ensure compliance with the relevant legislation.

OYAK Çimento Fabrikaları A.Ş., Adana Cement Branch, Aslan Cement Branch, Bolu Cement Branch, Ankara Branch, Mardin Cement Branch, Ünye Cement Branch, İskenderun I –II plants, and Denizli Çimento Sanayi T.A.Ş. have all now been Zero Waste-certified by successfully establishing a Zero Waste Management System as per the Turkish Zero Waste Regulation. Moreover, OYAK Concrete Misis Ready-Mixed Concrete Plant operating in Adana has obtained its Zero Waste Certificate, and an application on behalf of OYKA Kağıt Ambalaj is being assessed by the Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urbanization.

Upon receiving their zero waste certification, OYAK Çimento Fabrikaları A.Ş. and OYAK Concrete have focused on contributing to a reduction in the amount of waste produced and in the amount of waste released into the natural world. Additionally, with the efficient use of resources and the added value to the economy of recyclable waste, they are making great contributions to sustainable resource management and the circular economy.

Activities carried out at OYAK Cement’s factories and OYAK Concrete’s Misis Plant are focused on preventing and decreasing waste creation, ensuring the efficient use of resources, developing sustainable production and consumption models that promote durable, repairable, reusable and improvable products, choosing reusable products over disposable/single-use products, and organizing events to raise consciousness and awareness. A 15% reduction in waste is targeted at the end of one year, thanks to continuing work in this field.

OYAK’s five cement plants also merged under the same roof in May as part of OYAK’s sustainable growth strategy that will create a more effective synergy and help contribute to the improvement of processes. Thus, OYAK Cement plants serve as a model for each other in terms of best practices, and ensure that OYAK fulfills its liabilities towards the environment and society in the best way possible.
